Comprehensive dental care is about much more than just the condition of your teeth. It considers every aspect of your oral health, your overall health and your general wellbeing. As advocates of comprehensive dentistry, Dr. Lance Porter and our team take the time to get to know you as an individual, including your lifestyle, general diet, medications and medical history. All of these factors help us tailor a treatment plan that satisfies all of your unique needs. As a full-service dental team, we can provide preventative, restorative and/or cosmetic treatments customized to your goals.
Preventative Dentistry Services
Our dental team is dedicated to preventing serious oral health issues before they start. Regular dental exams are a critical piece of preventative dentistry. At every exam, we do a complete check for any signs of emerging problems, including signs of cavities, gum disease, lesions or other issues. If we discover something troubling, we can immediately address it and decide how to proceed.
Another big part of preventative dentistry is regular dental cleanings. During a professional cleaning, our hygienists use special techniques and instruments to thoroughly clean the teeth and gums. Our hygienists also use cleanings as an opportunity to review at-home oral hygiene practices and advise you on caring for your teeth and avoiding certain foods to keep your mouth healthy.
As we clean and examine your mouth, we can recommend a variety of services that will help you enjoy a complete set of teeth and a healthy smile for many years to come.
If you do develop tooth decay or damage, Dr. Porter and our team offer a full range of services to treat the problem and rehabilitate to your mouth. Ideally we want to accomplish this as quickly and minimally invasively as possible.
Dr. Porter repairs decayed or damaged teeth with tooth-colored fillings, inlays and/or onlays. More extensive decay or damage is remedied with the placement of a dental crown. When a damaged or decayed tooth cannot be saved, tooth extraction may be the best option. Missing or extracted teeth are replaced with dental bridges or dental implants. For widespread tooth loss, dentures or implant-supported dentures are an excellent way to restore a complete smile.
Dr. Porter always considers the impact of a new restoration and how it will affect the rest of the teeth in the mouth.
With some of our patients, we find that rejuvenating the appearance of their smiles greatly improves not only how they look but also how they feel. In addition to preventative and restorative dentistry services, Dr. Porter offers a wide range of cosmetic treatments and procedures. Imperfect or abnormal teeth can be hidden by beautiful, lifelike porcelain veneers. Stained or discolored teeth can be bleached to achieve a whiter, brighter smile.
Oral Health: The Mouth-Body Connection
Another crucial part of comprehensive dentistry is looking at your oral health in the context of you as a whole person. How does your oral health influence your overall health — and how does your overall health influence your oral health? For example, does your history of diabetes increase your risk of gum disease and indicate you need more frequent exams and cleanings? Or, as a growing body of evidence suggests, does your history of gum disease indicate that you may be at risk of problems like heart disease and should consult with other members of your medical team?
